Refractor

A chromium-stock parallel whose surface splits light into a rainbow sheen — Topps Chrome's signature, and the base of a colour ladder (Refractor → X-Fractor → Gold → Orange → Red → SuperFractor 1/1).

Refractors are the Chrome-line equivalent of Panini’s Prizms: same design as the base card, printed on a reflective stock with a serial-numbered ladder above the plain refractor. Older refractors (1990s Finest and Chrome) are unnumbered; modern ones carry the print run on the back.

How to recognise one

  • Tilt under light: a full-spectrum sheen across the surface, not a foil patch.
  • “REFRACTOR” or the colour name printed on the back, near the card number.
  • Numbered colours show xx/99-style stamps on the front.

How our catalog names it

Refractors are parallels of the base card: Topps Chrome 2023 · #12 · Refractor, colours as Gold Refractor /50. Every parallel is its own printing with its own book per condition.
